The base of it... white face paint and black eyeshadow to contour my cheekbones and my nose.
And then I used a paintbrush with the black eyeshadow mixed with a bit of water to make it liquidy enough to paint with. When it dried a little, I used a different paintbrush to smooth out the lines. Blusher brush worked nicely too!
I used the water/eyeshadow mix to paint over my eyebrows, my nose, lips and the eyes.
The nose is block black. The nose contour is a thin line of shadow/water mix and then blended out with a blusher brush.
I got some facepaint and stuff... and decided to experiment...
WOOO.
(I know I look like an absolute twonk but I enjoyed it and it might give you an idea! For halloween am actually going as a vampire so... Ill post them too.)

Bee Campaign - Uni
This, ladies and gentlemen, is one of my final 3 for my Campaign Project!
You have no idea how many friggin layers are in this.
I've drawn 6 different bees altogether, mainly Bumble Bee and Honey Bee in different positions.
Criticism please. I'd like to fix it before I have my deadline!
The whole concept of this idea is to raise awareness of the CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder) which is the name given to the disappearance of the western honey bee.
Einstein predicted that 4 years after the bee dies out, humans would follow. Pretty scary shit.
Thanks for c&c in advance!

Book Review Uno: Game of Thrones by George R R Martin.
This has been an insanely good read. Although written in a limited 3rd person narrative through different point of views of individual characters.
I'm not gonna spoil the plots or such so don't worry.
The story all takes place on a fictional land created by George R.R Martin, insanely intricate detailed maps are inside the book, as are the Houses of the Lords. Just like in medieval times, when you'd have paintings of bloodlines, the book has it all in the back, from the bloodline to the house's sigil. I.e Stark is a wolf, Lannister is a lion, Greyjoy is a Kraken.
I'll be perfectly honest with you, I found the story slow starting, and builds up as you gather more and more information about each house and the battle for the throne.
I highly recommend this for people who read alot, people with big imaginations. If you don't like fiction, such as Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, don't read this. You'd be wasting your time.
Favourite character in this is probably Tyrion Lannister. A dwarf, but he takes a special liking to 'broken' people. People with faults and flaws, as he can relate to them.
Lord Eddard Stark too, he's a very honorable man.
I loved the twist in the plots and the shocks you get throughout the book, its not typical save every character kinda book, and even though you find yourself sometimes thinking why on earth the author killed off a character, he manages to roll the story through and make it even better.
Probably a 4 out of 5 stars. Simply because it takes awhile to get into the story.

Portraits.
Been doing some work over summer,
and this is actually the first paid portrait. D: Nervous but its looking good so far :)
Might actually just finish it in pencil and then airbrush some of the imperfections in photoshop and print, would be more professional maybe...
anyway.
Criticism please!
(Drawing time: 1 and a half hours.)

Execution
Basically a continuation of last blog. I've added some more colour and details, but I've decided to stop here. Unfortunately the scanner has lost some of the colour so its not as vibrant. But oh well! :D Enjoy
(Once again, this is not my original material. I only painted it. The original image is copyright by Stephanie Law.)

Decided.
I've decided that every time I post a blog on an illustrator, I shall post another with a piece of work in the style of that person etc!
So heres my *unfinished* Stephanie Law illustration.
I think this idea should help me learn and take in more styles and help my style develop.
Disclaimer: This isnt original material, I used a Stephanie Law book on watercolour to help learn how she creates her images, step by step.
Purely for learning puposes. So this is my take on the original image :) So the original painting IS copyright by Stephanie Law and this isnt my idea.

Stephanie Pui-Mun Law
Heys guys, sorry I havent posted in awhile, been in hospital and some personal issues.
This illustrator I'd like to post is one of my favourites, if not favourite. The sheer attention to detail is so good, everytime I see an illustration or drawing, even if its pencil, done by her, I just feel inspired to draw something will detail, even if its an apple with a face and few butterflies or something crazy and random thrown together!
She uses watercolour as a primary media, but I think she likes to touch up a few in photoshop afterwards.
The colours and the whole thing is so well put together. She has a few books out on how to draw/watercolour etc which Ive bought, called Dreamscapes.
Although not alot of people are into the fantasy looking pictures, you cant deny the sheer detail! I think looking at her work has helped me through as an illustrator, pay attention to detail. Although alot of the times I end up getting fed up!
The layers of imagery really help with the dynamics of the artwork, dont you think?!
Anyway guys, heres some more pictures!
I think Ill try some watercolours like this, with a less fantasy feeling to it. :)

Angelina Jolie
http://backseatcuddler.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/08/angelina-jolie-biography.jpg
The link above is the ref pic I used.
Pretty hard, about an hour to draw.
I'm trying to draw people and get a somewhat likeness since I find it so hard. I always end up trying to make up bits and it comes out completely different to who I'm supposed to be drawing!
More to come :) I might do a celeb drawing blog just get me going.

Pencil Sketches
This one is just a few sketches together of my two german shepherds, they don't half move around alot! This one was about 20 minutes, each image taking a few of minutes.
This one I will add more in photoshop and make it a 'multi-media' piece. Or at least try to!
(Disclaimer: Symbol on the shirt is not mine, it is Slipknot's logo... since his favourite band is Slipknot!) This one is not a pencil actually... its a fine liner! Only about 10 minutes
A recreation of the Gnome from World of Warcraft since I've been playing it this summer... (Tell me what realm your on!) Probably about 40 minutes worth of drawing.
My mum and doggies asleep around the couch... its been a very lazy day today! Probably a 10 minute sketch.
This was a tattoo idea, pin up, nothing special, though for some reason the rose looks more like a cabbage, the cabbage lady! This took about 40 minutes maybe a little longer.
Not sure what to say about these! I felt inspired to draw, the need to draw. Just a few to keep me going through the day. :)

Andy Smith!
Loving these crisp packets! Making me hungry...
Im loving the contrast of colours with the crisps accordingly, like the streaks in the bacon streaks packet make me think of a crispy bacon butty right now... The typography works so well with each flavour, saucers are a very spacey font and the dino's are really stone age-ish! Bloody fantastic!
Found this guy's work when browsing through some illustrators. Love his work. I think I should be taking inspiration from the likes of his works, mainly because I'm not that great at my composition or colours!
http://www.andysmithillustrator.blogspot.com/
He has an exhibition in bristol 25th june till the 20th august, hopefully Ill be able to go there and have a look at his work! Bit of a trek but its worth it!
This one reminds me of a brief we did recently called How To. We had to make an image that would inform the viewer and educate I guess... I shall post mine up after this and explain! But more about Andy Smith. I love the sort of toony look he gives his drawings but they are so accurate! The typography always compliments his work, I need to learn to make better use of outlines aswell. I think the layering of his work is an important part of his work too.
Ill post more of his stuff as it comes, really great illustrator!
