So heres my *unfinished* Stephanie Law illustration.
I think this idea should help me learn and take in more styles and help my style develop.
Disclaimer: This isnt original material, I used a Stephanie Law book on watercolour to help learn how she creates her images, step by step.
Purely for learning puposes. So this is my take on the original image :) So the original painting IS copyright by Stephanie Law and this isnt my idea.

What a brilliant idea. Looks great too, can't wait for more of your work in the stylings of...
ReplyDeleteThank you :) I wasnt so sure of the fantasy concept, seeing as a few of the tutors seem to shy away from the fairies and the manga stuff...
ReplyDeleteBut I do enjoy the style of it. I'll try some more stuff in this style, maybe draw my pets and some random objects around the house :) I'm about to upload the finished picture...
I think they take a dislike to that sort of genre because it doesn't have much scope beyond it's already dominated market. But your idea of having ago at imitation, I guess helps you take away the most successful elements or techniques, ready to be re-applied with your own stamp. And after all "Good artists copy, great artists steal".
ReplyDeleteMost certainly. That I will not dispute :) However, I do take enjoyment in letting my head float in the clouds... maybe a bit too much...
ReplyDeleteStyle; style is your handwriting, the things you do, and only you can do, that nobody else does or understands how to do. Style should find you, its when someone says they love your style, and you think "I didn't realise I had a style" that you have finally discovered your "style". It is not something you pick up from other artists.
ReplyDeleteGet well soon!
